Hello friends!
Oh, it’s hard getting back into the swing of things after a break, isn’t it? Whenever my life moves into a temporary slower pace, I find myself looking around at the people who live in that space, wondering how they do it? How do they keep the chill? How do they seem so calm and unflappable? Maybe it’s the cocktails, or the sun, or warmer temperatures, but I’m suspecting it’s all about choices. It’s about making and meeting a goal. If your goal is to live in a tropical paradise, it’s all gravy after that!
To keep it in line with the Tigerbelles theme, some set their goal as making the team, and some won’t be satisfied without a medal. The goal doesn’t matter as much as the determination and capability you have to make it happen.
In one of my favorite quotes, Coach Temple said, “How much pride does it take? Enough to sacrifice. You’ve got to hurt. This means that when you can’t possibly run any further, you reach back, get something else, and keep on going. When the average person feels like she can’t keep going, she stops. ‘I’m tired’ is not the time to stop – it’s the time to push. Giving all isn’t enough – you must learn to give just a little bit more.”
There’s a time to rest, and there’s a time to dig in, to see what you’ve got. Whenever I struggled with motivation on this project that quote ran through my head, “I’m tired is not the time to stop.” Those words said to the women I so admired put every little procrastination and excuse I made to myself into perspective. It’s not about driving myself into the ground, it’s about making a goal, then doing what it takes to make it happen.
Now that I’ve completed the big goal of a finished manuscript, I’m setting new goals for getting the word out. I’ll be publishing a few articles, scheduling some events, reaching out to collaborators, making lists and ticking off the items week by week.
What I’m waiting for now is the cover image and feedback from my editor. The cover should be coming out soon! I’ve seen a few options, and I can’t wait to share the final choice with you! And of course, I’m restless to get notes from the editor… it all seems to be happening so quickly but slowly at the same time. It’s like that quote about parenting, the days are slow, but the years are fast.
And this baby is ready to be born!
Until next week!
